Welcome to Oakland, California!

Oakland is to San Francisco what Brooklyn is to Manhattan, a misunderstood and underappreciated step sibling to a more well known and well traveled neighboring city. When asked about Oakland, Gertrude Stein was misquoted as saying “There is no there, there”. Oakland has been undergoing a remarkable architectural, cultural and economic renaissance for the past few years that is just now blossoming into visual proof that not only is there a “there” here, there’s more to do, to see and there are more reasons to be in Oakland than there has been for a long time. Oh, My! Oakland is an homage to the new Oakland! Peruse this site to learn more about why Oakland is a great city worth living, playing and working in…and talking about.

Well, I read today in the SF Chronicle, in a small but important victory, the United States government will list polar bears as an Endangered Species and will so be listed due to global warming. However, the Bush Administration refused to limit emissions from industrial sources or otherwise regulate greenhouse gases and will allow petroleum exploration and extraction to continue, claiming it won’t harm the polar bears. That’s just mental!
